Software Engineer Intern (Frontend)

At GrassFed, you’ll turn designs into websites and applications people use every day. As a Software Engineer Intern (Frontend), you’ll work alongside our designers and developers to build React components, connect interfaces to APIs, and improve the details that make software easy to use.

You’ll take on well-defined tasks, contribute code to real projects, and work through testing and review with experienced developers. We care about what you’ve built and how you approach problems. Coursework, personal projects, and previous work all count.

• Build responsive, accessible interfaces with React and TypeScript.
• Turn designs into reusable components, paying attention to layout, interactions, and the small details that make an interface feel finished.
• Connect features to APIs and handle forms, validation, loading states, and errors.
• Troubleshoot issues, write tests, and participate in code reviews.
• Use AI coding tools thoughtfully, taking responsibility for understanding and checking the code you contribute.

• $15 to $20 per hour, based on relevant experience and demonstrated skills.
• On-site work with our team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
• A minimum of 10 hours per week during the semester.
• Hands-on work on real websites and applications, with regular code review and feedback from experienced developers.

What you’ll learn

You’ll practice taking a frontend feature from design through implementation, testing, code review, and release. Along the way, you’ll learn to break work into manageable tasks, explain technical decisions, respond to feedback, and verify changes made with AI coding tools.

What you’ll bring

• Working knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, demonstrated through completed projects.
• Experience with React components, hooks, state, forms, and routing.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and the difference between local interface state and data managed by a server.
• Comfort using Git branches and pull requests, including making changes in response to feedback.
• Experience using browser developer tools to investigate problems and writing basic tests to check application behavior.
• Clear communication, curiosity, and the ability to make progress with guidance while asking for help when you need it.

Working with AI

AI coding tools are part of our development process. You should have hands-on experience setting up and using an assistant in your editor or terminal, including guiding an agent through tasks that involve editing files and running commands.

We expect you to provide useful context, review the results, and be able to explain, modify, and test the code. You should also understand how to protect private code, client data, and credentials when using these tools.

During the hiring process, be prepared to walk us through a task you completed with a coding assistant, including what it got wrong, what you changed, and how you verified the final result. A personal or coursework project is welcome.
